Randomness From Around The Web

Mud Puddles And Meteors has a great weekly feature on their blog: hitting the trail. The picture above is from the Shackford Head Trail in Eastport, Maine - I want to go outside right now, looking for adventures in the woods and fields!

The best thing to wear on a cold day in October is a snuggly cardigan. I'd like to try my knitting skills on this lovely one, instructions from Brigitte.

Potatoes, squash, apples and onions, sliced thinly and baked under a bubbly parmesan crust - this Autumn Gratin looks absolutely delicious!

And for dessert: "almost healthy pumpkin bars", recipe from Gypsy Forest.

I found the party decorations pictured above on Oh Happy Day: the punched tissue paper fans look gorgeous!

Birthdays coming up and lots of presents to wrap? Print your own wrapping paper with free graphics, via Wolves in London.

A great summer salad: Arugula with chicken and strawberries,  from Serendipity (german blog).

This interesting project shows tweets by locals and tourists combined with a map - in Vienna, a lot of people tweet from the airport apparently! Check out your city or just explore the map, it's strangely beautiful! All those little dots...

Life advice: a mother's "posthumous" letter to her daughter."... always remember that, nine times out of ten, you probably aren’t having a full-on nervous breakdown – you just need a cup of tea and a biscuit".

Want to try painting with watercolors? This tutorial on The Alison show is very helpful.

Spotted shoes! so cute. By Dani from High Walls via Drifter And The Gypsy.

Randomness From Around The Web

Summer is here! These hot days call for light and refreshing treats. Ice cream, any one? I love these mix and match popsicles from Oh Happy Day, especially that they made them for a first day of summer-party! Back then it was still too cold here in Austria, but now the sun's out and I could eat one of those right now!

Homemade chocolate sauce that will form a yummy, crackly shell for your ice cream on SHELIKES (german blog).

Beautiful pictures from a family vacation in Positano on A Cup Of Jo - Italy is always a fantastic choice for a great holiday!

Looks like a light and flavorsome summer lunch: Apricot Salsa Quesadillas on Top With Cinnamon.

I love these Creative Paper Lamps from Danish blog BoligLiv (via decor8), and it looks simple enough to do on a sunny afternoon. Let's see, if I can decide on a color and style, maybe I'll give my living room paper globe a makeover this summer!

What a cool DIY idea from Kinsey: this moon phase shirt is beautiful and reminds me of the posters that went around the blogosphere for some time. Always loved the look of this beautiful orb in print, and I think I have to make a shirt like this soon.

A yummy breakfast/lunch/dinner for lovely summer zucchini: Eggs Foo Yung, on A Foothill Companion.

Gluten free Summer Recipes from gluten-free-girl and the chef. Mmmmh, the apricot-strawberry cake looks delicious!

An old problem: how to store all those pretty earrings? I still haven't solved it (remember this?)! Luri and Wilma had a great idea: an Earring Organizer made from wooden tags and twine. Pretty and practical!

Free notecard printables from Caravan in lots of awesome designs, hooray! Found on How About Orange.

A gorgeous magenta dip dye tote bag from Kristin Eldrige.

Elder flowers smell wonderful and they have a lot of benefits - find a list of recipes like Elder flower syrup and salve on Emil und die großen Schwestern.

Have you ever done a photo a day challenge? I haven't, but it sounds like fun...

I have been wanting to try ethiopian food ever since my friend N. told me about having it in Paris: you don't use cutlery but a thin sourdough bread called "Injera" to scoop up the ragouts and curries. I think that sounds amazing! And little did I know, there is a presumably great ethiopian place right here in Vienna! It looks very hospitable, there's a coffee ceremony you can have and the flatbread is made from tef, which is gluten free, yay! So, who's hungry?

Congee

I have been wanting to make Congee for a while now. Ever since I've changed my nutrition according to TCM principles a few years ago, I usually eat a warm breakfast: porridge with fruit, soup or vegetable omelets - my stomach loves it! But I hadn't tried this method yet. Then I found a recipe on Ulma's blog and finally got round to it. You basically cook rice (mochi rice or sushi rice or a mixture of both is best) with water in a ratio of 1:10 for up to 4 hours until it is very creamy. Tastes great with fruit and nuts, sprinkled with cinnamon and kardamom, but traditionally (in China) Congee is eaten with meat, fish, vegetables, egg, soy sauce... Some great ideas for combinations can be found here on Frau Ziii's blog. Have to try that soon, I'm thinking toasted sesame oil, soy sauce, some chicken and veggies... yum!
